Taiwan Island is the largest island in China, located on the continental shelf off the southeast coast of the mainland. Taiwan Island is not just Dokdo, but a province with many islands, including the main island of Taiwan, 21 affiliated islands such as LAN Yu, Green Island, and Diaoyu Island, and 63 islands in the Penghu archipelago.
At present, there are about 110 kinds of mineral resources found in Taiwan Island, of which only 20 kinds are of practical exploitation value. During the occupation of Taiwan Province by Japan in the 1930s, Taiwan Province exploited and plundered resources. At present, some valuable mineral deposits have been exploited for a long time, and their reserves have been greatly reduced or even exhausted.
At present, Taiwan's coal resources have been gradually depleted, the annual output of less than 100,000 tons. Taiwan Province has relatively more kinds of metal mineral deposits, but not much reserves. The metal deposits with proven development value are mainly gold, silver, copper, iron, etc. Gold deposits are the most important metal deposits in Taiwan, with proven reserves of about 5.8 million tons, mostly co-occurring gold and silver or copper. Copper reserves are about 4.7 million tons. Iron ore is relatively poor, total reserves of about 2 million tons.
Taiwan has many kinds of non-metallic mineral resources and abundant reserves. Marble, limestone, dolomite, sandstone, feldspar, serpentine, talc, asbestos, mica and sulfur are the main economic values and reserves. Among them, marble is the most abundant non-metallic mineral deposits in Taiwan, with reserves of nearly 300 billion tons.
