Jakarta - The Indonesian government will ban the export of several minerals, including nickel, bauxite and tin, into electricity based on new and renewable energy (EBT).
This was conveyed by Investment Minister/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia after the second meeting of a series of Trade, Investment and Industry Working Groups (TIIWG) under Indonesia's G20 chairmanship.
”我用镍think we have to fight for it. Not only that, but this year we will stop exporting raw bauxite. Next year we will ban tin exports, "he said on Wednesday (6 July 2022).
He explained that the policy needed to be implemented to encourage downstream. In addition, EBT is banned to meet domestic demand.
Speaking at the opening of the second TIIWG meeting, he also discussed the government's policy of encouraging nickel downstream production. He believes mismanaged nickel management will have a bad impact on the environment.
However, the government's policy of halting nickel exports has been challenged by the EU through the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
"I went out of my way to convey that in this forum we should discuss common ground, stand at the same height, stand at the same low, and empower each country to regulate its own national position. Because of what? There is local wisdom, the comparative advantage of each country, and other countries don't need to intervene as long as they are really contributing globally, "Bakhril said.
At the forum, Bakhril asked other countries to start respecting the policies set by one country, including the government's plan to ban nickel exports.
"Why? We have to be ready, we are a country and not be scared, "Bakhril said.
