In the first half of 2021, Norilsk nickel's total marketable nickel production fell about 26 percent year on year to 79,283 tons, with nickel production from its own Russian feedstock falling about 28 percent to 77,015 tons, according to a report released by the company. Its nickel production in the second quarter fell about 30 percent month-on-month to 32,644 tonnes, with nickel from its own Russian feedstock falling about 31 percent month-on-month to 31,457 tonnes.
Nickel production in the first half of the year by source: Russia's Kola MMC nickel production decreased by about 24% year-on-year to 56,684 tons (all produced from its own Russian raw materials), among which, refined nickel decreased by about 39% year-on-year to 43,302 tons, intermediate products increased by about 311% year-on-year to 13,382 tons, and decreased by about 27% quarter-on-quarter to 23,874 tons. Nickel production at The Harjavalta refinery in Finland decreased by approximately 32% year-on-year to 22,599 mt. Nickel production from its own Russian feedstocks decreased by approximately 37% year-on-year to 20,331 mt. Nickel production from third-party feedstocks increased by approximately 123% year-on-year to 2,268 mt. Nickel production decreased by approximately 37% quarter-on-quarter to 8,770 mt. Nickel production at South Africa's Nkomati mine, which has stopped production in the second quarter, fell about 70 per cent year on year to 795 tonnes, excluding consolidated production from its 50 per cent stake.
The Oktyabrsky mine was restored to full capacity in mid-May following the water seepage accident, and the Taimyrsky mine is expected to be restored to full capacity by the end of November.
The 2021 nickel production guidance target for its Own Russian feedstock remains unchanged at 190,000 to 200,000 tonnes.
