According to the Leader newspaper, speaking at a press conference ahead of Nigeria Mining Week 2022 in Abuja on August 16, Minister of Mines and Steel Development Olamilekan Adegbite revealed that Nigeria's vast and rich mineral resources, spread across the country, have the potential to become "the next best investment destination in the world, And diversifying the economy to grow the gross domestic product."
Adegbite revealed that Nigeria Mining Week is scheduled to take place from 1-3 November 2022 at the International Convention Centre in Abuja. This is part of the ministry's global step to beat the national mining drum loud and clear and send the message that the Nigerian mining industry is ready for investment and development.
Adegbite also revealed that key issues to be discussed during Nigeria Mining Week include critical mineral resources, which are the cornerstone of many technologies to provide the world with green renewable energy; Global trends in Environmental and Social Governance (ESG); The journey so far towards reliable geoscience data acquisition; Downstream opportunities and so on.
Adegbite further stated that Nigeria, as one of the epicentres of the next technological change in the mining industry, is well positioned to support supply chain diversification, as well as security of supply globally.
Adegbite noted that Nigeria Mining Week 2022 will provide investors with the opportunity to network with colleagues from across the globe, hear expert analysis, seal deals in private discussions, and discuss the latest opportunities and challenges in the mining industry.
Earlier, Acting President of the Association of Miners of Nigeria (MAN), Alhaji Musa Muhammed, revealed that Nigeria Mining Week 2022 aims to showcase the emerging developments and performance of the sector, especially the diversification of the country's economy away from oil and gas dependence with a focus on the country's rich mineral resources.
Muhammed said this year's forum would focus on successes and victories in the mining sector, with a particular focus on commodities such as gold, iron ore, barite, asphalt and kaolin.
