First Quantum Mineral recently released its second quarter production report, which showed that the Ravensthorpe nickel plant produced 4,348 tonnes of metal in the second quarter, up 6.8% year on year and down 5.3% quarter-on-quarter. Its sales volume was 2,892 tonnes of metal, down 58.1 per cent year-on-year and 33.5 per cent month-on-month.
The month-over-month decrease in Ravensthorpe production was mainly due to production being affected by wet weather, particularly in April, when heavy rainfall was experienced, which affected material handling and reduced beneficiation throughput in addition to low pre-leach extraction rates and limestone availability. C1 nickel cash costs increased $3.30 per pound to $10.08 per pound due to higher processing costs due to higher sulfur and fuel prices.
Ravensthorpe nickel production guidance for 2022 remains unchanged at 25,000-30,000 tonnes of metal.
