Congo's Cobalt And Copper Production Rises Sharply In 2020--PUDA Mining Machine

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) produced 85,855 tonnes of cobalt in 2020, up 10 per cent from 2019, while copper production was also up 11.8 per cent year on year, the country's central bank said on Wednesday.

Data from the central bank also showed that copper output reached 1.587,000 tons in 2020.

The Democratic Republic of Congo, the world's largest cobalt producer and Africa's largest copper miner, was hit when cobalt prices collapsed during the global pandemic last year, but a strong rebound in prices helped boost output in the heavily mine-dependent country.

Copper prices have surged to their highest level in nearly a decade, while cobalt prices have also rebounded strongly.
