As the $1 billion steel plant took shape, the giant furnace worth millions of dollars arrived on site at the Manhize steel plant in Mvuma yesterday.
Villagers and surrounding communities go out in the cold weather, watching heavy trucks, lights flashing to warn other road users of their abnormal load, steadily drive to the site of the new factory to unload equipment.
Set up by Dingsen Iron & Steel, a subsidiary of Chinese steel giant Qingshan Holding Group, the Manheze steel plant will be one of Africa's largest steel producers.
Mr. Wilfred Motsi, project Manager, said that as the new project takes rapid shape, there are exciting times ahead, especially for the Mvuma community and the country as a whole.
Most of the plant's critical equipment is now on the ground, arriving in the country on time after granting sub-national project status to the steel mill and removing import bottlenecks.
"We have been receiving furnace equipment components since the beginning of the week and a ministerial delegation will visit the plant tomorrow to see the progress," he said.
Mr Motsi is pleased with the support the company has received from the government.
Local villagers are looking forward to how the new steel mill will change the face of the area.
“这是一个伟大的礼物peo全能的神ple of Manhezi. For a long time we were poor villagers and didn't know that we had some treasure in the ground that could turn this area into a town, "said Mr Lameck Mazvihwa, a local villager.
Mrs Egness Chimbiri says she began to enjoy the benefits of her new company's arrival after her two children were hired.
"We now have a mobile phone network here as well. Before, we didn't have Internet and you would go to some high point to get Internet access, but now we are connected, "she said.
Another villager, Ms. Yeukai Mhazi, says the company has brought development to the area.
"It's amazing how fast our area has grown since this company came in. We are happy that this place will soon become a modern town of its own, "she said.
The Manhize Steel plant was recently included in the government's 100-day priority project.
The billion-dollar project will eventually build a new town in Manhize and is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs when completed.
